Yule Log

Yule logs represent many things to many people. We will be making a Yule log from wood… sorry no chocolate at this event! 

"The word ‘yule’ really is our understanding of the word ‘winter’ in Old Norse," said Heidi Sherman, associate professor of medieval history at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and curator of UWGB’s Viking House.

Once your log is decorated it is up to you what you do with it… I will be lighting the candles over the coming weeks and then on the 21st I’ll be lighting the fire and burning the Yule log. Others may wait to light the candle and the log at the same time on the solstice. Others still may choose to re-use it year after year. Your traditions are your own and are welcome to be shared while making your Yule log!
